NARHA Certified Theraputic Riding instructor Kate Reyes of San Antonio has recently made CHHR home to her lesson horses and a few friends' horses which will also be used in her programs. Her program is called OPEN T.R.A.I.L. (theraputic riding and individual lessons). She will be working with all beginners in most disciplines, but her true love is working with children with disabilities such as autism, ADHD and Downs syndrome. She can also work with disabled veterans, but they must be fairly mobile because she does not have a mounting ramp yet.
Kate's love of horses started when she was young and attended summer camps in Comfort, TX. Secretly signing up for "horse camp" rather than "bible camp," she quickly became an accomplished vaulter, and a riding instructor for younger kids at camp.
Prior to coming to CHHR, she worked for Triple H Equitherapy in Pipe Creek as an instructor for three years. A very busy young woman, Kate is continuing her higher education at Texas A&M University in San Antonio where she is double majoring in special education and counseling. She expects to receive her bachelors degree in 2011.
Kate is also an equine specialist in horse psychology. She can relate to horse and owner problems, counseling the owner on how to become a partner with their horse.
