San Antonio SHA Fling
Boarder Sherry Rosser-Carroll and her daughter Kyle had a very successful circuit at the San Antonio Rose Palace. Both of their geldings won numerous classes under various riders. Rocky, who previously had a rather "rocky" reputation, was a perfect gentleman. And Jasper made a tremendous come-back from an almost career-ending episode of EPM several years ago.

Wine Tasting/Arts & Crafts
The CHHR boarders and friends gathered on a beautiful February afternoon for a wine tasting plus a fun arts and crafts experience, which was a surprise from ranch owner TJ Corgill. Each lady was challenged to paint their horse's markings on little wooden model horses. After the wine tasting, it was quite a challenge!

It's a Boy!
Here's Face It Im Right (applied for), barn name Hannity. He's a bay roan colt
born Jan 21 to our Blazing Hot mare. Very long legged, but oh so
smooth. He was loping around the stall when he was three hours old! He
has two front socks, one hind partial coronet w/a striped hoof, and a
connected star, strip, snip. Unlike most Face babies, his blaze goes down into his right nostril. I guess he knew what his name would be.

It's a Girl!
Meet Face It Im A Jewel (applied for), Face's first 2010 foal. She was born here at CHHR the evening of Jan 4 to our Dynamic Deluxe mare. Mom and daughter are doing fine and receiving visitors. Jewel is a bay roan filly with a big irregular blaze that runs to the left side of her face (typical of Face babies). She has a little bit of white on her left hind coronet, just enough to make that hoof striped.

Bandera County Cowgirl Roundup and Showdeo
Self-named "Cowboy Capital of the World," Bandera (TX) has a yearly gathering of cowgirls of the county. In 2010 an early January a call went out for cowgirls to meet for a Cowgirl Round-up and Show-deo at the Hill
Country Natural Area's arena. Nearly 70 cowgirls were there for the panoramic photo followed by a "show and tell"
program where groups took to the microphone, explaining their various
involvements with horses while showing off in the arena. Julie Dinse on Roses Moses, TJ Corgill on Face It Im Chilly, and Sherry Rosser-Carrol on TA Rodansk demonstrated ACTHA trail obstacles for the crowd. Then the other cowgirls tried their horses on the obstacles. Fun was had by all!

Wonderful Website
Face is being featured on the website www.triplecrownstudio.com as the "cover boy" in their advertisement of Christmas e-cards. This is a beautiful site, and their prices of digital horse portraits are soooo reasonable. Plus, part of the money goes to horse rescue. You'll love the site. I recommend it highly. Here's our e-card for Christmas from CHHR.

CHHR Christmas Party 2009
The party started out with a trail ride across a neighbor's ranch. We decorated our horses for Christmas to "get in the spirit of the season." What a gorgeous fall (nearing winter) day it turned out to be! After the ride, the Christmas party was in full swing with a white elephant gift exchange of ornaments.

Bandera ACTHA Ride on Dec 5
With visions of snow flurries in our heads, we headed to the ACTHA ride at the Hill Country Natural Area in Bandera. Actually, the snow was on Friday and we rode on Saturday. It was cold, but crystal clear and sunny . . . perfect for a winter ride! CHHR boarders Kay Prince on Hansum and Beth Bennett on Sherman were our STARS! Kay/Hansum placed 2nd in the Open division and Beth/Sherman (at their first ACTHA ride!) placed 3rd in the Pleasure division!

We Beat Em All!
Kay Prince and TJ Corgill traveled to Brenham, TX, to compete in the open division of an ACTHA (American Competitive Trail Horse Association) ride over Thanksgiving weekend. Both scored the same number of points, tying them for first place in the ride, but TJ's horse Chilly accumulated four pluses on the obstacles. This put TJ and Chilly in first place with Kay and Hansum (barely) in second place. Sherry Rosser-Carroll competed in the pleasure division on Rocky, placing mid-class (and moving up)!

2009 AQHA Word Sale
It was definitely a buyer's market at the 2009 AQHA World Sale, but prices were better than 2008 (a little). The CHHR yearlings left Oklahoma City in all different directions. Click the little camera below to see where Callie, Dollie, Manu, Miracle and Romeo will be calling home. This photo is of Kelsi Storrie, Natalie Ippolito, and TJ Corgill in front of the coliseum where the World Show takes place. Note the blankets on Lilly and Carly (mini doxies). It was cold!!!

ACTHA Parrie Haynes November Ride
Chilly's back to it again! In our first competitive ride since spring, TJ and Face It Im Chilly placed second in the Open category at an ACTHA ride. Sherry Carroll also competed on her grey Arabian gelding Rocky in the Pleasure category, placing mid-class. We were very proud of that, because Rocky has been a pure arena horse for all of his 16 years! Now he and Sherry are loving the ACTHA competitions.

Rocky's Famous!
New boarder TA Rodansk+ "Rocky" was prominently mentioned in an article in the Oct/Nov issue of the national magazine Modern Arabian Horse. The article talks about how showing horses has helped chronically ill children. Earlier this year Rocky's owner Sherry Rosser-Carroll loaned the big gray gelding to Kendall and Steven Paris, who made the most of it. Both placed very well at Arabian Youth Nationals, held in Albuquerque, NM.

First Fall Ride
After a hellish summer, September has actually felt somewhat like fall here in the Texas Hill Country. We got a little rain, things greened up, and the temperature went down into the 80s. To celebrate, Beth Bennett on Sherman, Kay Prince on Hansum, and TJ Corgill on Chilly took a great Saturday ride at the Hill Country Natural Area State Park in Bandera, TX.

"Melvis" at Youth World
CHHR ex-boarder Melissa Jesurun qualified Special Invites Only "Elvis" for three events in the 2009 AQHA Youth World Show!
They competed in hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation and
performance halter geldings. It was a long term goal for Melissa, and
we are so very proud of her accomplishment. Melissa has now started college at Texas State University in San Marcos and Elvis is for sale. Please see http://pleasurehorse.equine.com/horses-for-sale/horse-ad-913939.html?sr=1 for information.

2009 Texas State 4-H Show
Melissa Jesurun came away a BIG winner at the 2009 Texas State 4-H Show in Abilene. She took reserve champion in the lunge line class with Faces Masterpiece "Manu" out of 21 entries. Then she climbed aboard her gelding Special Invites Only "Elvis" and was named reserve overall hunter/flat classes champion. With Elvis in the western classes, Melissa went Reserve (2nd) in pleasure and 3rd in horsemanship!

Rusty's Headed for Florida
Face It Im Rusty headed to his new show home in late July with his new owner Stephanie Fowler of Lake Placid, FL. Everyone should watch for this new pair in the big lunge line classes next year. After the long haul from Texas to Florida, Stephanie e-mailed us, "Oh my gosh, Rusty is so sweet! He loves everybody, he is so brave, he walks everywhere, goes around the big horses, and all the scary stuff at the barn. I brushed him and fly sprayed him this morning and he was perfect! (better than a couple of my other horses!) I love him! He is perfect!"

Crystal and Monet Leave for Canada
The early morning hours of July 11 found Crystal (Face It Im Mauve Lus) and Monet (Piece of Art) boarding a trailer and heading north. They will be making their new home in Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada, with Cherrie Merrill-Pavao. Monet may go back into the show ring, but will assuredly become a very loved brood mare. Crystal will be in the Canadian lunge line classes next year.

Ranch Horse Versatility Clinic/Competition
Kay Prince and TJ Corgill took their young geldings, Hansum and Chilly, to a ranch horse versatility clinic/competition in mid-June. Although out of their "comfort zone" the ladies and horses learned a lot and had a great time. Kay even ended up winning reserve champion in the "never won a buckle" division of the competition!

Livermore Ranch Weekend
It was magical, spiritual, beautiful, fun, inspiring, awesome. There aren't enough adjectives to describe our long weekend at Livermore Ranch in West Texas. Click the little camera below to look at the pictures. Kay Prince, Peggy Fry, Julie Dinse and TJ Corgill were very fortunate to have been invited to attend the "First Annual Horse Holiday" of the Livermore Ranch Cowgirls Association whose saying is "You WISH you could ride like a girl!"

And the Winner Is . . .
Chilly! TJ Corgill and Face It Im Chilly won their division of the May ACTHA (American Competitive Trail Horse Assoc) ride held at the Franklin Family Ranch outside of Blanco, TX. It was an adventurous day which included torrential rains, thunder, lightning, blustery wind -- all from a freakish cold front that dropped the mid-day temperature into the 60s (unheard of in this part of Texas in mid-May!). Chilly was the youngest horse in the competition, and still beat 38 other horses!

ACTHA March Ride
Kay Prince had quite the weekend at C-Bar Ranch in Valley Mills, TX. She placed fourth on Hansum in the pleasure division of the ACTHA ride, and got reserve grand champion dog with her schnauzer Jimmy. We think both will be on RFD-TV in June, when the ride will be featured.
