We Beat Em All!
Kay Prince and TJ Corgill traveled to Brenham, TX, to compete in the open division of an ACTHA (American Competitive Trail Horse Association) ride over Thanksgiving weekend. Both scored the same number of points, tying them for first place in the ride, but TJ's horse Chilly accumulated four pluses on the obstacles. This put TJ and Chilly in first place with Kay and Hansum (barely) in second place. Sherry Rosser-Carroll competed in the pleasure division on Rocky, placing mid-class (and moving up)!

Kay puts on/removes rain slicker aboard Hansum.
Ah, the trials and tribulations of trail riding . . . cockle burrs in long tails!
Kay and Hansum approach an obstacle.
This is a photo that the official photographer at the event took. TJ liked the photo, calling it "artsy" even though her head was cut off . . . after all, Chilly is the most important part of the team!
Chilly, TJ, Kay and Hansum proudly show off their ribbons. They were also proud of the monetary winnings at the ride!
Southwind Farms just outside of Brenham, TX, is a working cattle ranch with rolling grassy hills and huge oak trees. It was a beautiful setting for this ACTHA ride.
Because of the wind Sherry had her hat tied on really well, making it look like what the official photographer called and "F Troop Hat." For those of you old enough to understand, you'll laugh when you look at the photo. Also, note poor Rocky's tail. It's tied in a knot because he (and all the other horses) had to travel through a cockle burr patch while entering the water at one obstacle. All tails were filled with the burrs.
